Finland’s social affairs ministry has proposed a revision of the country’s Tobacco Act, with a specific focus on branding and limits on outdoor smoking, reports EURACTIV.
If the proposal is approved it would mean all product packaging would be labelled identically with no logos or brand names featured. Flavoured tobacco products would also be banned as well as smoking in public areas such as bus stops, public beaches and playgrounds. According to EURACTIV, smokers would only be allowed to smoke on open terraces at bars and restaurants.
The second important topic being discussed as part of the new Tobacco Act is litter reduction. Should the Tobacco Act go ahead as proposed, the changes will come into effect between 2022 and 2024.
