RJ Reynolds Tobacco cigarette shipping volume in the final business quarter of last year fell 8.6 per cent compared with a US industry decline of 6.2 per cent, said parent company Reynolds American (RAI).
Growth brands Camel and Pall Mall increased their market share by 0.6 percentage points to 18.1 per cent. Camel snus, the leading US snus brand, continued to grow and holds about 80 per cent of the market, RAI said.
RAI will continue to invest in its Vuse e-cigarette as it expands into national distribution, said Chief Executive Officer Daniel Delen.
Volume at the American Snuff subsidiary rose 8.2 per cent. Grizzly brand market share rose 1 per cent to 30.3 per cent. American Spirit, made by the Santa Fe Natural Tobacco unit, gained market share and boosted volume, RAI said.
RJR Tobacco adjusted operating income rose 4.1 per cent in the fourth quarter to USD 595 million (EUR 436.4 million) due to higher product pricing and lower Master Settlement Agreement costs, RAI said.
