Stores selling tobacco products in Salem will have to acquire an annual permit from the city health district as part of the Tobacco 21 program, reports Salem News.
The city health district board has approved the final reading on the resolution which will allow the board to demand permits for all tobacco vendors in Salem. Anyone selling tobacco products from 15 July will have to obtain an annual permit for USD 100 from the city health district, reports Salem News. The Tobacco 21 program also means that health officials are able to enforce rules against anyone selling tobacco products to under 21s as well as ensuring signs are visible to indicate that no products may be sold to anyone under 21. Scheduled and unscheduled inspections many be carried out to ensure rules are being followed. Anyone found to be violating the new legislation will face written warnings, fines or even permit revocation for repeat offenders.
The city had scheduled a public hearing to accept public comment on the matter, however no one attended, reports Salem News.
