San Francisco has proposed a new law which would ban the sale of e-cigarettes until their health effects are accessed by the US government, BBC reported.
The law, which is yet to be approved, would be the first of its kind in the United States, according to the report. Dennis Herrera, San Francisco city attorney and co-author of the bill, said that reviews on should have been done before they were sold in the country. In addition to that, Herrera said that San Francisco, Chicago and New York have jointly sent a letter to the FDA to investigate the health effects of e-cigarettes.
Last year, the Californian city became the first city in the United States to ban flavoured e-liquids and tobacco products. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently released purposed guidelines which give companies until 2021 to apply to have their e-cigarette products evaluated, BBC reported.
