The US Senate rejected an amendment to the Agriculture Reform, Food, and Jobs Act of 2013 to end federal subsidies for tobacco crop insurance, Senate documents show.
Submitted by Sen Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif), the amendment that would have stopped the Federal Crop Insurance Corp from paying any portion of a tobacco insurance policy was defeated 44-52, well short of the 60-vote approval margin needed for passage.
