The UK Government is preparing to crackdown on cigarettes and ban single use vapes in order to discourage youngsters from using them, reports The Telegraph.

The Government is expected to reveal plans that would phase out the sale of cigarettes and ban disposable vapes as early as next week. The aim is to prevent youngsters from using the products after recent research revealed that half of those aged between 18 and 24 who use disposable vapes do so despite no history of smoking, reports The Telegraph.
Ministers are trying to find the balance between children not picking up the habit while keeping vapes in place for smokers looking to quit. The plans will also see a crackdown on flavours and marketing of vapes and could lead to increased taxes being placed on these products, reports The Telegraph.
It is expected that the bill will be debated in early February and if the phasing out of the sale of cigarettes goes through would make the UK the first country in the world to introduce such measures.
“The health advice on vaping is clear: vaping can play a role in helping adult smokers to quit, but if you don’t smoke, don’t vape – and children should never vape. We have consulted on measures to reduce the appeal and availability of vapes to children. We will set out further details in due course,” said the Department of Health and Social Care.
