A study done in Tasmania shows half of the state’s smokers would reduce or quit smoking if e-cigarettes containing nicotine were legalized, according to a report in the Mercury.
Study results were based on 400 Tasmania smokers and compiled by the Australasian Association of Convenience Stores, the newspaper said. One third of the study participants said they had tried e-cigarettes. Nicotine e-cigarettes are banned in Australia. Health Minister Michael Ferguson said there were no immediate plans to lift the ban, the Mercury reported.
