A smoking ban in defined places will come into effect from 1 August with the Ministry of Health issuing Circular No 11/2023/TT-BYT which regulates no-smoking places, reports VietnamPlus.
According to the Circular, smoking will be completely banned indoors and within estate premises of healthcare facilities, educational institutions, facilities providing care and entertainment services for children and facilities or areas with a high risk of fire or explosion. The smoking ban also extends to public transport such as automobile, aircrafts and metro lines.
As the Circular shows, smoking is also completely prohibited indoors in workplaces of state administrative agencies, state-run units, businesses, political organizations, socio-political organisations, social organisations, socio-vocational organisations and other units as well as public places including: food service establishments, entertainment facilities, railway stations, wharves, bus stations, religious facilities and places of worship, convention centres, commercial centres, markets, theatres, cultural houses, cinemas, circuses, clubs, sports halls, stadiums, community houses and common areas of apartment buildings.
Places that prohibit smoking indoors but may have separate areas for smokers are: isolation areas at airports, bars, karaoke parlours, dance halls, hotels, motels, guest houses, resorts, other tourist accommodation as well as public transport including ships, trains.
