NEW ZEALAND
Smoking banned in cars with children

New smokefree rules came into force on 28 November in New Zealand, banning smoking in cars with children, reports NZME.

However, a Smokefree advocacy group says more needs to be done to meet the country's goal of being Smokefree by 2025.
The latest measure, which states that every car – whether moving or stationary – carrying people under the age of 18 must be smokefree, came into effect on 28 November and aims to reduce children's exposure to second-hand smoke.
This is part of the government's commitment to achieve the Smokefree 2025 target and follows measures such as the introduction of plain packaging for cigarettes, the ban on the display of cigarettes in retail outlets and progressive legislation on vaping that supports vaping use as a quit smoking tool.
Ash director Deborah Hart said smoking was not only dangerous for the person smoking, but also for those around them. However, Hart said more game-changing measures were needed and she was waiting for the Government's Smokefree Plan, which went out for consultation this year, to provide more detail on what these would be, the report said.
