Comprehensive anti-smoking legislation setting public areas off limits, mandating packaging warnings and a ban on advertising was approved by the country's lower house of parliament on Wednesday.
The lower house banned smoking in public spaces and forbid advertising, promotions and sponsoring by tobacco companies. Warnings must be included on the back of all cigarette packs detailing the harmful effects of smoking on health, reports the Buenos Aires Herald.
The draft bill already had the preliminary approval of the upper house and bans the usage of marketing terms including 'light' and 'soft'.
The draft bill had the support of most political blocs and was approved by an overwhelming majority, with 182 votes in favour, one against and one abstention. (pi)
