Outside smoking in Milan is now only permitted where a distance of 10 metres to the next person can be guaranteed, reports Berliner Zeitung.
The new law that came into effect on 1 January, prohibits public smoking unless 10 metres distance can be maintained. This will affect smokers at bus and train stations, in parks, cemeteries or any other public places. Exceptions have been made for closed rooms but the new law is seen as a precursor to the final ban on public smoking in Milan, which will come into effect in 2025, according to Berliner Zeitung. The aim is to protect citizens from passive smoking and fine dust particles.
