A surfboard constructed with 10,000 cigarette butts collected on California beaches topped entries made from potato sacks and an old bathroom door to win a recycled board contest, the Associated Press reported.
“It’s visually disgusting – but awesome in how gross it is,” said Ben Judkins, who with creator Taylor Lane was responsible for the winning entry, the AP reported. Styrofoam collected from fish markets is the other main component in the surfboard, the AP said. Contest sponsors are the Vissla surfing accessory company and the Surfrider Foundation.
