Swedish Match mounted a legal challenge to the European Union’s ban on snus by petitioning a British court to refer its complaint to the European Court of Justice (ECJ), Reuters said.
The legal foundations of the long standing ban changed with the recent EU revision of its Tobacco Products Directive, which includes rules for novel tobacco products like e-cigarettes, Swedish Match reportedly said. The High Court of Justice was asked to request a ruling on the validity of the ban from the ECJ, Reuters said. The ECJ is the highest court on matters of European Union law.
