The Tamil Nadu state Directorate of Drugs Control informed the Madras High Court that makers electronic cigarettes must apply for certification under the Drug and Cosmetics Act to sell their products, The Hindu said.
An e-cigarette supplier, Steamz Agro India Private, based in Chennai, asked the court to restrain the state following a 2013 raid on its facilities by drug inspectors during which products were seized for violating the law, the newspaper said.
