Data from the country's National Centre of Statistics and Information has shown that tobacco prices rose by more than 92 per cent in September 2019 compared to the same month in 2018, Times of Oman reported.

Oman has implemented a selective tax or ‘sin tax’ on tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and energy drinks since 15 June 2019, the report said. The new law increased the tax on tobacco and its derivatives, energy drinks, certain types of meat and its products, and alcoholic beverages by 100 per cent, according to the report.
