Philip Morris has launched a new "mini cigarette", called Marlboro Intense, that can be smoked faster, but has the same amount of nicotine as the full-size version.
The Marlboro Intense, which at 7.2cm is considerably shorter than the 8.5-centimeter regular Marlboros, is designed to appeal to individuals who can only take quick, outdoor cigarette breaks while at work. The mini cigarette allows individual to smoke their cigarette much more quickly than regular sized ones, but still delivers the same amount of nicotine as the full-size version.
The new cigarette will first be first tested in Turkey. However, Philip Morris envisions a worldwide demand for the new product, with more than 50 countries now having bans on smoking in public places.
Anti-smoking organisations in Turkey have accused Philip Morris of deliberately testing their product in an under developed country and of taking advantage of the high rate of smoking prevalence in the country. Philip Morris has asserted that the product conforms with the relevant Turkish regulations, including the tar and nicotine ceilings in place in the country. (pi)
