California state lawmakers failed to act on a package of tobacco control bills before the end of the regular session, making it unlikely they will be heard before next year, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Raising the smoking age to 21, hiking the tobacco tax by USD 2 (EUR 1.76) and imposing restrictions on e-cigarette use were among the measures that died on the Assembly floor, the newspaper said. The bills were introduced in a special session on health issues, which could extend into next year, when the measures could be taken up again, the newspaper said on its website.
