Taiwan's new Tobacco Hazard Prevention Act will take effect on 11 January 2009.
Under the act, smoking will be banned in public areas, including train station platforms, and in indoor areas such as bowling alleys, cybercafés and passenger waiting room and working areas with over three people. A smoking room with separate air conditioning can be installed by hotels, restaurants and malls.
Violators will be fined TWD 2,000 to TWD 10,000 (EUR 45.6 to 227.8). (pi)
