The Tobacco Board lowered the 2015-16 production goal by one fifth, a reduction of 56 million kilogrammes, citing a poor world market, high inventories and declining domestic demand, The Economic Times said.
Setting a goal of 220 million kg, the Board said most of the reduction would be in Andhra Pradesh, where the crop authorization was cut to 120 million kg from 172 million. The goal in Karnataka was lowered to 100 million kg from 104 million, The Economic Times said on its website. The two states account for nearly all Indian tobacco production.
