JT International Bhd will cease discount activities in the near future following instructions from the Ministry of Health, said managing director Martyn Griffith.
"The discount activities that coincided with other players were not price wars but were perceived so. Tobacco players do give out discounts at different periods of the year as part of promotional drive," Griffith said after the company AGM on Wednesday.
He said the tobacco company would look at other opportunities to promote its brands.
Meanwhile, operating environment continues to be challenging after three consecutive years of increased taxes by the government.
