Malawi President Peter Mutharika said widespread flooding has delivered a major blow to tobacco, the country’s major export earner, reported South Africa’s Eyewitness News.
A detailed investment plan would be needed to revive tobacco farming, Mutharika reportedly told Eyewitness News. “Tremendous damage has been done. Our crops have been washed away”, Mutharika reportedly said. Malawi is a leading burley producer.
