With tobacco crops stored and still waiting to be purchased, tobacco growers are facing increasing financial problems, reports The News International.
Tobacco growers in Pakistan came out in droves to protest and demand that the Pakistan Tobacco Board purchase their crops that are still being stored in godowns. Liaqat Yousafzai, the chairman of the Tobacco Growers Association of Pakistan said that the tobacco crops currently being stored are worth millions of rupees and needed to be purchased immediately, reports The News International.
Because the crops have not yet been purchased, tobacco growers are facing financial problems, according to Yousafzai. The protest saw farmers set fire to tobacco bales and stage a sit-in. They reportedly intend to continue their protest until their demands are met.
