Tobacco crops have suffered due to very hot weather conditions with little rain and the output is expected to drop by 13 per cent, reports The Chronicle.

The 2019/2020 summer cropping season has been hit by very hot weather, which has affected the agriculture and livestock sector badly. Some crops such as maize have simply wilted and the tobacco output is now predicted to be down to 225 million kilogrammes from 259 million kilogrammes last season, according to The Chronicle.
However, experts still have hope that the crop may recover with TIMB chief executive office Dr Andrew Matibiri saying, “So far, what we have observed during the crop assessment is that the tobacco crop is now growing well after the rains most parts of the country have received.”
