The National Tobacco Administration (NTA) predicted production will fall short of 50,000 metric tons this year after 56,457 MT in 2016, the Business Mirror said.
January to June output at 48,922 MT is unlikely to increase due to the onset of the rainy season, NTA Administrator Robert Seares said in remarks reported by the Mirror. A drop in tobacco consumption reportedly discouraged growers from planting.
