Parliament raised excise duty on tobacco products to 170 per cent of the ex-factory price from 150 per cent primarily to reduce consumption, the government said.
Ghana has one of the lowest tobacco product levies in the region, and the increase also would bring the country closer to the average for Africa, the government said on its website. Ex-factory refers to the buyer’s price at the manufacturing site, before the cost of transport to market.
