In order to align the country’s tobacco manufacturing with international standards, new provisions relating to raw and manufactured tobacco will come into force from January 2024, reports Morocco World News.
A new law announced by the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes will make it necessary for tobacco companies to declare percentages of chemicals such as tar, nicotine, and carbon monoxide on cigarette packages from January 2024. From then, cigarettes imported or manufactured in Morocco may not exceed 10 milligrams of tar or carbon monoxide and 1 milligram of nicotine per cigarette, according to Morocco World News.
The Department of Customs and Indirect Taxes will be in charge of monitoring the levels of these substances and may conduct testing if necessary. Any cigarettes that do not comply with the new regulations will no longer be allowed to be marketed or consumed in Morocco.
