A comprehensive anti-tobacco programme for the next 15 years has been developed by Moldovan government, according to local media.
The bill imposes a total ban on tobacco advertising and sponsorship in sporting and cultural events. Health warnings on tobacco packages are to be brought into line with the requirements of FCTC, which Moldova ratified last May. Laws against selling tobacco to minors will be toughened, and tobacconists to be moved away from schools for no less than 100 meters. The tobacco industry is bound to re-equip cigarette making lines so as to reduce nicotine and tar delivery. Similar measures are suggested to bring down consumption of alcohol.
