In a move to focus on a smaller range of specialty BOPP films, Treofan Group intends to sell its Treofan Benelux SA business in Liège, Belgium.
Officials at Trefoan group, one of the world’s leading makers of high performance BOPP films based in Raunheim, Germany, say the company already is in advanced talks with potential purchasers of the Belgian site, where about 100 are employed.
"Our strategy is to focus on a smaller range of speciality BOPP films, especially in the areas of tobacco, electronics and IML labels," explained Carlo Ranucci, CEO of the Treofan group, in a statement. "With Treofan Benelux mainly producing other types of films, the sale is a logical step."
According to the group, the sale of the Liège facility will include an agreement whereby the Liège site would produce up to 20,000 tons of BOPP films for Treofan per year. Treofan would also cede some distribution rights for Treofan's products to the new Belgian entity.
The group includes five production sites, processing about 200,000 tons of film annually at currently four sites in Europe and one in Mexico. The sale of the plant in Liège will bring the total to four production sites. (ci)
