Allen B. King announced that the board of directors of US leaf trading company Universal Corporation has elected George C. Freeman III to succeed King as president with immediate effect.
King will remain chairman and chief executive officer of the company.
Freeman has been with the company since 1997. Prior to that time, he was with Hunton & Williams, an international law firm. Freeman was elected general counsel and secretary of Universal in February 2001, and vice president on 9 November 2005.
King has been with the Company since 1969 and became president and chief executive officer of the company on 1 January 2003. He was elected chairman of the board of directors on 28 October 2003. (ci)
