US Tobacco Cooperative will open a marketing centre near the North Carolina border in La Crosse, Virginia, to better serve growers in both states, USTC said.
Located near Interstate 85 and US highway 58, the 161,250 sq ft (14,981 sqm) facility will enhance tobacco buying and provide efficient storage, improved processing and grading. It will open in time for the 2016 growing season, the cooperative said.
“One of our goals is to operate first class marketing centres in areas that are convenient to the majority of our grower base and that are cost efficient. The La Crosse market centre should accomplish both of those objectives,” said USTC Chief Executive Stuart Thompson.
Based in Raleigh, NC, USTC is comprised of 850 growers in five states. In addition to processing tobacco for sale to cigarette manufacturers around the world, USTC makes and markets cigarettes, roll-your.own and cigars in the US, including the 1839 and Traffic brands.
