The Utah House committee approved a bill that increases the state tobacco tax by USD 1.00 a pack, reports the Associated Press.
The House Bill 196, which was passed by the House panel on a 5-2 vote on Friday, raises the tobacco tax from USD 0.695 to USD 1.70 per pack. The bill was proposed by Paul Ray, a Republican from Clearfield, who is also sponsoring two other bills that aim to ban the sale of some tobacco products in the state. (pi)
