Tobacco buyers in Zimbabwe will need to provide proof of vaccination in order to attain a license for the 2021 season, reports Bloomberg.
It had already been reported that all tobacco workers would be classified as frontline workers and vaccinated ahead of the start of marketing season, which is due to start on 7 April. Now Zimbabwe’s tobacco regulator has added that all buyers of the crop must be vaccinated against the coronavirus in order to obtain a license for the 2021 season, reports Bloomberg.
“We want to make the tobacco markets a place of safety as far as Covid-19 is concerned,” said Patrick Devenish, the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board chairman. He added that they were not forcing the uptake of vaccines but were encouraging an industry-wide participation.
