On 14 July 2009, Dutch converting company Vrijdag announced that it would be taking over the Dutch companies Gestel Printing and Gestel Holding.

Vrijdag will be taking hold of Gestel’s premises and machines in Eindhoven. A limited part of the activities will be integrated in Vrijdag Premium Printing, also in Eindhoven. In addition, a slimmed-down organisation will start up again at Gestel’s former site, under the name of Gestel Premium Printing.
Like Vrijdag Premium Printing, Gestel has a great deal of experience in the production of high-quality and specialised packaging and labels. The take-over will complement Vrijdag, providing the group with a very wide range of high-tech features, including sheet-fed gravure, eight-colour offset, bronzing, embossing and hot foil stamping technology, specialist die cuts, and the assembly of cardboard boxes for the tobacco industry.
Gestel was founded in 1880 and has a rich history. Vincent van Gogh lithographed his drawings here during his Nuenen period. He also purchased his black printing ink here, which he used to add more depth to the dark areas of his paintings. From its foundation until the present day, Gestel has been specialised in high-quality labels and packaging; and like Vrijdag, the company has won numerous prestigious prizes. 
Vrijdag Premium Printing was founded in 1905 and is a financially sound and strong family business. (ci)
