World Tobacco Asia 2014 has been moved to Singapore from Indonesia and will be held as originally scheduled from 12-14 November, organisers said.
Earlier this year police in Bali, Indonesia, rescinded a permit for the Intertabac and ProTobEx shortly before the twin event was to take place in February, causing organisers to cancel the exhibitions.
World Tobacco (WT) said discussions with Indonesian authorities since the “Bali debacle” raised concerns that the licence would not be issued in time for the Jakarta show during what is a general election year in Indonesia. Whether the selected site, a Jakarta exhibition centre under construction, would be finished in time for the November trade fair was another worry, WT said. The new venue is the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, part of the Marina Bay Sands complex.
