The Customs Administration of the State Revenue Service (VID) confiscated a total of 23,830 packs of contraband cigarettes (476,600 cigarettes) on the border to Belarus, reports LSM.lv.
The officers at the border control found 206,600 cigarettes (10,330 packs) hidden in wagons with dried milk powder on a cargo train from Belarus. The cigarettes were branded ‘NZ Gold’ and ‘Minsk’ brand with excise tax stamps of the Republic of Belarus, reports LSM.lv.
The previous day more contraband cigarettes had been discovered in a cargo train from Belarus hidden in a wagon containing corn grain. The 270,000 cigarettes (13,500 packs) were branded ‘NZ Gold’ and also featured excise tax stamps of the Republic of Belarus.
According to LSM.lv., criminal proceedings have been launched.
