Menthol flavoured tobacco products will be prohibited in Alberta from 30 Sept following action by the province's Minister of Health Sarah Hoffman to add the minty flavour to the general ban that took effect 1 June, The Edmonton Sun said.
Hoffman told the provincial legislature including menthol in the flavours ban would make smoking less attractive to youth. Retailers will be allowed to sell existing stock until the end of September to mitigate financial loss, the newspaper said on its website. Alberta became the second province after Nova Scotia to announce a menthol ban.
