Altadis' tobacco factory in Alicante is now to be the only one of its kind manufacturing dark tobacco cigarettes for Europe.
The other factory owned by the tobacco conglomerate is in Morocco and only produces dark cigarettes for the home market.
The decision comes as the landmark Tabacalera factory in Sevilla stopped producing cigarettes of this sort yesterday, while the Lille factory in France that also used to produce these cigarettes has also been closed. As a result, the Alicante factory is expected to increase production to around fifteen billion cigarettes a year. (pi)
