Andhra Pradesh, one of India’s largest states and home to 12 gutka manufacturing units, is the 14th state to ban gutka, reports the Deccan Chronicle.
Both manufacture and sale of the oral tobacco product will cease under the government ban. Both tobacco and non-tobacco ingredients in gutka have been blamed for health problems ranging from cancer to cardiovascular and gastrointestinal disorders. The ban also extends to pan masala, a similar chewable substance. (pi)
