British American Tobacco (BAT) extended its contract with GT Nexus for a “cloud” based computer platform to handle the cigarette maker’s global supply chain, said the data company based in California.
BAT sells products in more than 200 hundred countries and operates a supply chain that includes 46 factories in 41 countries. BAT has operated the GT Nexus platform since 2009. GT Nexus’ cloud based platform, which eliminates the need for users to invest in their own computer infrastructure, is the largest of its kind, managing goods valued in excess of USD 100 billion (EUR 93 billion) for more than 25,000 trading organisations, the company said.
“We see GT Nexus as an outstanding partner in this area not only from a technology perspective, but also with regards to strong professional services and consultative insights. Being able to simulate spend scenarios as part of the carrier bid analysis is of great value for an optimized freight allocation to ocean carriers,” said Alan Richards, BAT’s global procurement manager for logistics.
