British American Tobacco Australia won an appeals court hearing in a bid to force the government to turn over documents relating to a plan to restrict cigarette sales to plain packages.
The Full Federal Court of Australia will review whether BAT Australia is entitled to view legal advice given the government on mandating plain packaging for tobacco, BATA announced.
A hearing date before the Full Federal Court, which is an appeals body one level below the High Court, has not yet been set.
“BATA is hopeful that the Full Federal Court orders the government to release the key document which it has continually declined to do through the Freedom of Information process,” the tobacco company said. (pi)
