Newly appointed drug commissioner Daniela Ludwig called for a ban on outdoor advertising of tobacco and e-cigarette products, a federal press release reported.
Ludwig was speaking at a press conference to present the 2019 national drug and addiction report and said that the advertising ban should be applied to cigarettes and all vapour products.
According to the report, use of cigarettes is gradually going down in Germany, whereas consumption of e-cigarettes is clearly on the rise, especially amongst teenagers and young adults. Ludwig stressed, “this trend needs to be stopped.”
Ludwig also emphasised that more needs to be done to help people with addictions and their families and that it is time for a more open dialogue surrounding the topic rather than “ideology-based debates”.
