RJReynolds Germany has recently announced that it will close down its Berlin factory in late 1997, since reunification state allowances for companies in Berlin have been stopped and exports in countries which now have own production capacities have dropped sigificantly in the last years
According to a company spokesman, the production will be transferred to the company’s other German factory in the city of Trier; most of the plant’s 200 employees will be offered a new position there.
The Berlin factory was set up in 1958; in 1996 six million cigarettes were produced there, including Camel Filter, Reyno Lights, Club and Club Menthol.
