CVS will stop selling tobacco products in its more than 7,600 pharmacies from October, a move the retailer said would cost it USD 2 billion in annual sales.
"Ending the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products at CVS/pharmacy is the right thing for us to do for our customers and our company to help people on their path to better health," said CVS Caremark Chief Executive Officer Larry Merlo. "Put simply, the sale of tobacco products is inconsistent with our purpose."
CVS pharmacies are located in stores that also sell personal hygiene items, periodicals and a variety of durable goods.
