Demand for Cuban cigars among consumers remains high

“Business Insights” has released a new video surrounding the topic of Cuban cigars and the issues the industry faces.

With the Covid pandemic in its third year, the supply situation for Cuban cigars remains tense. In the latest edition of 'InterTabac Meets…', Christoph A. Puszkar, Head of Marketing & PR at 5th Avenue, explains the challenges currently facing manufacturers, importers and retailers of premium cigars. 5th Avenue is the official exclusive importer of Havana cigars in the German, Austrian and Polish markets.
“Demand for Cuban cigars among consumers remains high,” said Puszkar in the interview, but the production situation in the country is still not as it was before the pandemic: “Cuba, like the rest of the world, is affected by Covid. For hygiene reasons, key cottage industry manufacturers have only been able to use half their workforces. Added to this is the fact that many of the tobacco rollers have also had to deal personally with the consequences of the pandemic, for example when childcare was not available. That said, we’ve been told the situation on the ground will improve in the second half of the year,” he continued.
The interview does not focus solely on the current situation in Cuba. In conversation with ‘InterTabac Meets…’, Puszkar looks ahead to live events that aficionados and aficionadas can look forward to: the Habanos Days, the Festival de Habanos and InterTabac. The world's largest trade show for tobacco products and smoking accessories is once again set to bring the entire cigar industry together in Dortmund this autumn/fall. Puszkar can hardly wait: “We're really looking forward to seeing our customers again.”

The entire interview (in German) is now available online at: https://business-insights.intertabac.de/media-center#InterTabacmeets1

The video series 'InterTabac meets…' appears on Business Insights, the interactive platform of InterTabac, the world's largest trade show for tobacco products and smoking accessories. This will take place in Dortmund from 15 to 17 September along with InterSupply, the leading trade show for manufacturing processes behind tobacco products, e-cigarettes, pipes and hookahs.
