Ras Al Khaimah has become the latest emirate in the UAE to introduce a ban in public places.
The ban, which went into effect on 5 October, applies to hotels, restaurants, cafes, shopping malls, sports halls, men and women’s salons and other enclosed public places, said Mubarak Ali Al Shamsi, Chairman of Ras Al Khaimah Municipality. Special rooms are to be designated for smokers, especially in hotels and shopping malls.
Violators of the ban will be fined AED 5,000 (EUR 1013) or more. (sra)
