The Azerbaijani ministry of finance suggests raising excise tax rates for imported alcohol and tobacco products in 2007, reports the national news agency Day.Az citing minister Samir Shafirov.

The revision of the taxation regime is one of the stipulations of Azerbaijan’s admission to the World Trade Organisation, as the excise tax imposed on imported tobacco goods is twice as large as that for local cigarettes. (vt)
