The Spanish Society of Pulmonary and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR) asks for anti-smoking laws to be updated and reinforced to help people stop smoking, reports Euro Weekly News.

SEPAR suggests five “inalienable measures” to the Ministry of Health to reduce the amount of tobacco consumed in Spain.
The first demand is to increase the prices of tobacco, cigarettes, cigars, shisha tobacco, e-cigarettes and heat-not-burn products. For the second demand, the Ministry of Health has already proposed tightening restrictions on smoking in public places. It has already been decided that people will no longer be allowed to smoke indoors at venues, but SEPAR also wants to ban tobacco use in public places such as terraces, sports stadiums, beaches, parks and bullrings, the report said.
The next measure affects packaging. Plain covers for all brands are demanded so that there is no difference visible among the brands. The fourth measure, according to SEPAR, should be to "regulate the sale, consumption and advertising of electronic cigarettes and devices that heat but do not burn tobacco", which should be the same as traditional cigarettes.
Finally, they call for more aid and health care to help people quit smoking, through the establishment of smoking cessation centres and easily funded treatments for all who want to quit.
