China’s government has ordered its entertainment censors to clamp down on films and TV series that feature too many smoking scenes, reports the Daily Mail.
In a bid to keep young adults and teenagers away from cigarettes, China has said it will put a stop to “too many” on-screen smoking scenes, according to the Daily Mail.
The country’s entertainment censors have been told to increase efforts in order to cut irrelevant smoking scenes from productions. Furthermore, movies and TV programmes that “extensively” feature smoking will be banned from awards.
China has more than 300 million smokers, which makes up almost a third of the world’s total. Each year about 1 million people in the country die from tobacco-related diseases, reports the Daily Mail.
