Tobacco farmers in Zimbabwe are getting ready for the next tobacco-growing season with 14,105 farmers registered so far, reports The Herald.
According to statistics from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), a total of 14,105 farmers have registered for the 2021/22 tobacco-growing season so far. 7,537 of those are communal farmers, 4,871 are A1 farmers, 817 small-scale farmers and 880 A2 farmers, according to The Herald. The region with the highest number of registered farmers is Mashonaland Central with 5,744, followed by Mashonaland West with 5,307, Mashonaland East with 1,707, Manicaland with 1,303, Midlands with 31 and Masvingo with 13 farmers.
Overall, it is expected that the sales volume will surpass the 200 million kg target in the 2021/22 marketing season.
