Most farmers got their tobacco crop into the ground before the late September deadline for irrigated infrastructure, the Zimbabwe Herald said in a story citing the Commercial Farmers’ Union.
This year the number of farmers registering to grow tobacco rose to 70,000 from 65,221 last year, the newspaper said in its online edition. Tobacco production is expected to rise this year, the Herald said.
Farmers’ Union Vice-president Berean Mukwende told the newspaper erratic power supply remains a challenge. (pi)
